A magnificent marsupial known as the koala,

A grey, heavy cloud with a nose, limbs and eyes,

Is really a cuddling koala hiding in disguise.

Embracing the chocolate brown,

Her keen claws, clasping the eccentric bark of the gum tree

That stretches to the skies that bind us prisoners.

These trees of gum stand, a home of comfort and solace,

For these clouds of grey.

A piquant aroma of eucalyptus dominates near scents,

Familiar fragrances that lure me

To a pool of momentous memories of my backyard days.

A foreboding thought that worries,

As if this grey sky were to disappear! A piece of me missing,

A broken heart beyond restoration,

A tragic result of endangerment, to the trees of gum

That gave clouds of grey a place of solace and comfort.

Now held hostage in my dreams,

Clouds of grey dissolve into the jail of sky,

Trees of gum now a void of emptiness. This magnificent marsupial

Now a mere memory.
