stand so still

seeking water 

from the cool soft bill

lurking for purpose 

waiting for dawn

as they fall on the big black lawn

attempting to climb

to get away from the red-hot flame

approaching closely, mouth wide open

will the fire get him? or will the fire be ashamed

climbing the tree

desperate as can be
