Dar's Cross and Me

I loved my grandfather, Dar
In my family Dar is the name given to a grandfather.
I had so many happy times with him but that all stopped 4 years ago
And then many sad and miserable times came in there place.
After saying goodbye we travelled back to his house
Usually the house meant happiness now it meant regret
I looked over by his brown leather recliner and saw It.
His cross was sitting on the window-sill, abandoned.
It was a small cross, it could fit in the palm of my hand
I picked it up and walked over to my grandmother, then I asked.
I asked her could I keep the small cross could I please have it
She gave me the a tiny smile and told me of course
I knew she, was having the hardest time let her sleep
And then I took the cross home and to this day I treasured it
It stays on my bedside table where I can see it every morning.
The cross itself is plain and simple like a kindergarten project
just made of wood but like a kindergarten project it has so much more to offer
there is so much more underneath the surface so many memories
For it has seen many journeys as my Dar indeed took it everywhere
It has seen his whole life and what a full life it was
Now it is seeing my life and what is to come.
So that Cross has been on adventures with both me and my Dar
I would love to think that through that cross I can still with my Dar
And I am still his friend...
