The echidna nobody likes,

Because of her dangerous spikes.

She has toothless jaws,

Razor sharp claws.

Despite looking so frightening,

She is shy, wise and enlightening.

Everyone just walks on by,

Poor echidna continues to sigh.

Every day locked in a deep, dark room,

No sunlight, just doom and gloom.

Nobody has seen her for many years,

She sits alone with flooding tears.

Each day they come to feed,

Each day she hopes to be freed.

In the wild her numbers are declining,

The zoo keeps their species surviving.

One day she was noticed and seen

Then suddenly everyone was keen.

She crawled from her deep dark room,

Never looked back, and began to bloom.
