Eucalyptus koala, where are you?

Beetle black eyes play peekaboo between overdue branches,

my furry friend invites me into its crib,

starving to death it's already taken a nib.

Vivid colours compliment each other in harmony,

a rainbow of hues glisten ever so elegantly,

never seen before,

surroundings turn into heat waves of ruby.

The trees were a safe haven,

initially, the animals were blessed,

instead, the trees stood lifelessly,

too weak to carry on with life.

Eucalyptus oil stored in nooks and crannies enhances the flames,

engulfed in the flames, slowly the koala drifts away.

Eucalyptus koala, where are you?

Landscaping burnt to a barren crisp,

where could he be?

Emerging from the extinguished smoke,

there he must be.

Eucalyptus Koala, you have found me!
