Brown, black and white.

Tiny, mighty, fast, fearless, strong.

Quieter than a mouse, sleek as a ninja, lies a bandicoot eating the sweet grass.

Its white and brown tail lay still, behind its brown and white stripes and brown front.

Its big ears acting like a radar, as they listened for danger.

It lifts its head, its hazel eyes shining in the daylight sun, making the tinsel trees shine.

Faster than lightning, the bandicoot dashes to a lush green bush.

It watches quiet and still, not daring to breath as a human and their dog walked by.

As the bandicoot thought it was all over, the dog stopped, ears forward, facing the bush as a shrill bark pierces the sweet spring air, tail wagging faster and faster like a heartbeat.

The bandicoot thought it was the end.

Then they simply came slowly out of the bush and back to eating.
