From sands to rocks, the baby turtle crawls

To the warm embrace of the sea

Where the first flecks of salt

Watch on with glee

From womb to world,

Safely lain, feelin’ no vain

The baby is born

Stretching a yawn

The seabirds will swoop

Pluck them from the earth

A sight with no mirth

Gone to their brothers

But the baby will grow,

From child to man

In his lifespan polluting the world

As if it were a skill

The leatherback turtle: wise, old, clever

Creating problems almost never

Yet left to endure

A world so impure
