I break free and extend a leaf

Unfurling under a sky of blue

This stage of life is brief

Around me they reach for the sky

Preparing to debut

They continue to extend high

Absorbing light and casting shade

Like tall towers obscuring my view

Of the forest glade

Now they stumble and fall

On the ground their trunks strew

Where they once stood tall

As they falter and fade

My life begins anew

The sun lends me its aid

It's my turn in the spotlight

Developing my grand green hue

Birds nest at great height

Finally it's my cue
