The golden medal, as bright and shiny as the heart of the sun.
I had earned an achievement far greater than a medal.
Pride rushes over me as the judge says first place.
My medal starts to shake, my heart beats like a bongo.
A cool, chilly drip of sweat runs down my forehead, the audience clap and cheer.

Medals, just some tiny round shaped pieces of metal, people presume.
Lockets of memories which hold achievements and should be treasured.
That very dear day was the birth of this very dear medal.
It’s my superhero in the hardest of times.

Swung around, used and dropped.
Kept in cupboards as it gets dustier and dustier.
School, work and even in the car I think about it.
Even the thought, gets me straight A’s.

Without it I feel heart stopped like a clock that doesn’t tick.
All your best memories being vacuumed right out of your head.
Now I’m 24 I will still always think about;
The golden medal as bright and shiny as the heart of the sun.
