Grass

Vibrant green poking through the dark soil
Blades reaching up to the sunlight
Regular trimming does nothing to inhibit its growth
Vibrant green glistening in the early morning dew
Hiding the creatures that crawl in and out of its stalks
Supporting intricate spiderwebs being woven back and forth
Vibrant green cushioning our feet
Squashed under our heavy footsteps as we walk along
Bouncing back to stand erect once again
Vibrant green feeding our livestock
Chewed by beasts as they graze all day long
Turning nutrients into human food
Vibrant green blooming between paths of concrete
Creating lawns for children and dogs to play
Giving hope that there is still life in the urban jungle
Vibrant green covering the hillsides
Giving our eyes a pleasant, restful feast
Reminding us how good it feels to be alive
What would our world be like without grass?
