Great Barrier Reef

Throughout the vast ultramarine abyss,
Lie the waters of The Great Barrier Reef.
Careful swells of water ripple words of death.
Beneath the sea of blue, place a whole new sea of white.
Day by day, corals continue to deteriorate.
The corals' vibrant hues fading.
That once was a temple of life,
Has now become a graveyard.
Silent cries of help erode to a dead whisper.
Blissful clownfish glide through the water,
Unknowing of the dangers that await.
It was us;
We are the reason for this Armageddon.
Each microplastic we toss is one coral gone.
This crisis cannot be undone.
We are the mark on humanity.
Each one of us,
Murderers that aren’t jailed.
What once was an alluring haven, what now is a despicable memorial.
