I came home from school that day A bird in a cage Negativity and fear wrapped up in me Then she came uninvited To this sad grass party for one My Guardian Angel? Bathed in sunlight Flashing her pencil case yellow mohawk Spreading her snow wings
Showering me with hope and courage
Just by perching on that arch in the veggie patch
I feel the breeze dancing on my skin
Her black eyes stared into me
Refusing to let me look away
She screeched
Once
“Spread your wings”
Then she schooled me
Spreading her soft strong feathers
If she can fly so can I
