They watched her walk in and then freeze,
They heard her footsteps on the soft natural floor
Watched as she fell to her knees,
Eyes brimming with tears
Mouth trying to form words to say yet no sound comes out
She wanted to yell, she wanted to shout
So she did
She thought nobody would hear her
It was only trees she was amid
But they heard her and they longed to reach for her
To hold her close
But time seems to slow
As they realise they can’t move
They are frozen in place
So they watch as she cries and screams in pain
“She comes here every day,” The tree whispered to its neighbour
“Sometimes to read, sometimes to cry. It varies on the day.”
The girl lifted her head
She could have sworn she heard a noise
It must have been the wind
