Harmony of the Forest

Great trees whisper,
Branches creaking with gentle embrace,
Leaves brushing against one another,
Speaking of the past,
Reminiscing sounds of the painted snipe,
A small flock at the edges of the lake,
Telling stories of what they had seen in other lands,
Now barely a memory…
Plants that once had roots,
Intertwining with those of the trees,
Supported and held in the trees' great arms,
Now pulled away, lost…
Songs from frogs and birds,
Once sung continuously,
And in harmony with the trees,
Now absent…
The forest,
But a small patch of land,
Minuscule and unimportant,
Alone, and disconnected…
