My long journey began, one dark and gloomy night,
The only thing that accompanied me was my lantern, shining bright.
I stumbled through the darkness attempting to ignore my fear,
Right at that moment to me my purpose was not quite clear.

Because of all the heavy rain I was soaked through to the bone.
I was feeling forlorn, sad and upset but most of all alone.
What should I do? I thought to myself. I have nothing, not a speck of dust,
In fact for the past few weeks, my shelter’s been an old bench with rust.

To others I am invisible, no-one really cares.
Everyone walks past me as though I’m not even there.
The only thing that keeps me here, the only thing that keeps me from dying,
Is that tomorrow will bring a new day and tomorrow the sun will be rising.
