If Nature Had a Human Heart

My throat is dry,
Yearning for water.
Cracks in my skin,
Stagnant tears.
As colour fades,
The fish swim away.
Isolated. Disconnected.
Lost.
As the fire roars and no trees are left unscathed,
The birds cry a mournful tune.
As the sky weeps uncontrollably,
The soil drowns in misery.
As my children wreak havoc,
Dying blue satin black.
As days become too warm,
Desperation. Discomfort.
I long for a future where clear rivers flow
And rock ceases to cascade.
“When can I stop hurting?”
I wish for my heart to keep beating.
