Koalas

High in a gum tree the koala sleeps
Munching on crunchy eucalyptus leaves.
its tiny joey tagging along
As their luscious fur glistens strong
Fires scorching over the forest.
Removing any place to call home.
Red flames creeping up
Everything turning to dust
Feeling trapped under a suffocating blanket .
the hot ash breeze strikes against your face.
You turn around, horrified, a koala laying singed in charcoal ash.
Putting your hands on its crispy, dark fur.
Taking it to the vet and getting it cleaned.
Know my little friend is happy to be back in his tree.
