What does the leaf feel
When falling from the tree
A fall so graceful so serene
Cupped in hands of gentle breeze
Does this gradual dancing descent
Echo the thoughts within
Serene perplexed accepting
Or violent panicked and objecting
Was the creeping cold a constant fear
Stealthily approaching this time of year
What then is left to feel
Trapped on life’s eternal wheel
Does then the tree silently mourn
Feel bereft desolate and forlorn
For those who had clung tenaciously
Living lives precariously
Those once verdant bursts against the sky
Become burnished flags flying high
Now lie carpeted at your feet
On earthen floor or city street
What then is left to feel
Trapped on life’s eternal wheel
