Lone Tree

I stand proudly in the forest
My roots like legs stretching to the sun
The sun warming my branches
Then
The fire came
At first, I saw a dim orange glow
Until it erupted like a volcano
Spreading
Spreading
Spreading
Leaving a blackened path in its wake
Heading towards me
Oh how badly I wanted to flee
But my roots kept me grounded
Burning my life away
My fruits
My branches
All lost in seconds
To the fire that came today.
