Lonely Tree

Ignored by most but adored by some,
Just a tree to stick their gum,
A tree that’s nice to sit under,
But it always makes you wonder.
How long has it been standing?
Who was commanding?
What year was it planted?
What team name was being chanted?
Dead during winter but alive in spring,
It’s the powerful nature king,
Colour of grey in cold,
But when it’s warmer it is bold.
Small next to all the trees,
Not attracting any bees,
Not even dogs will go near it,
No one would care if it got hit.
On the corner of a quiet road,
Just the occasional load,
No kids running around,
Just the tree and the ground.
