Man’s Ruin

The air surges around me in a deep, gusty breath,
The huge jagged rocks like teeth of death.
The trees sway faintly, their leaves spiralling towards the matted ground,
The birds chirp sweetly, their song an alluring sound.
The ocean laps silently against the endless beaches,
The glittering blue captures the heart of whomever it reaches.
I take a deep breath, and listen to her voice,
She quietly shares her secrets if you make the right choice.
She’ll share the sound of trees, their bark cracking as they collapse,
The desperate cries and swooping feathers as birds vigorously flap.
The powerful sounds of saws, and the clearing of her leaves,
Discarding them in piles of rubbish and accumulating debris.
Her flowers are destroyed, and the rich soil set alight,
The forest now a blazing hue of colours burning bright.
As I turn around her lush expanse of rolling blues and greens,
I’m reminded that there’s an evil taint of giant metal machines.
She whispers me her secrets, a gentle voice telling her plight,
That man’s ruining of the earth will be their killing strike.
