Marmite

The thing that reminds me most of home,
Is not some object or some peculiar thing,
But rather a food,
Quite well known at home,
But it is not really a food,
For you cannot eat it on its own,
But it goes well with butter and bread,
For it is too salty all alone,
It's known by a different name here,
For Sanitarium stole its name,
And defiled the world's greatest spread.
Australians will never know
Why it tastes so much like vegemite,
But so different all at the same time,
Why it is the nicest chocolate,
But not to be eaten on its own.
