Memories

The wind whipped in the sails,
As we crossed the seven seas,
The lonely island ahead,
Waiting just for me.
The plants swayed slowly in the wind,
Slowly and sadly as they waited,
Waited to be rediscovered on the abandoned Earth.
As slowly people remember,
Remember the Earth they left behind,
Left behind long ago as humans set off for Mars.
So as we neared the island,
The Earth seemed to hold its breath.
As we approached the small island,
Until the boat could go no further,
We would have to travel on foot.
So as we stepped off of the boat,
We allowed our feet to sink into the water,
As we set off towards the island,
Back to claim what was once ours.
