Memory Keeper

As I stare, what do I see?
An old face looking back at me.
The wrinkled lines of life time now past,
the tired eyes now fading fast.
I have stood here a thousand times before,
here in this spot, my feet on this floor.
I look again a small boy I now see.
His baby face smiling at me.
His eyes wide with wonder and glee.
I look again what do I see?
A young man grinning at me,
ready to go with the world at his feet
adventure, excitement, for all he will meet.
The years they come and they go,
faster and faster, never slow
but the mirror remains silent seeing it all.
Hanging quietly as if asleep on the wall.
And now as I look again the old man is there,
a life time of memories I see in his stare.
