My Brown Teddy

I can hear the sounds of cars racing past me
Going to have some fun
The aromatic smell of roast chicken gradually floats up to me
Coughing, wheezing, sneezing,
A tear, tenderly rolls down my cheek
She walks in and hands it to me
Warmth, frailness, comfort
Its cocoa-coloured nose, ragged neck and soft hazel fur, give me love
The tenderness leads me to care for it,
I must...
As she leaves me alone with it
The tears cease
The coughing, wheezing, sneezing;
It no longer matters –
As long as this is with me,
I’ll be loved
I’ll be cared for
As long as I care for it just as much
