Trees wave in the breeze
As the sun goes down
It’s getting late
Soon it will be dark
And all the musky rat-kangaroos will be asleep
The lesser sooty owl will wake up
It will watch the echidna slurp up some ants and termites
There are hoots and growls coming from every direction
There are sounds of wings beating up and down
And then there is silence for a moment
But that moment fades quickly
Until it all starts again
Orange dawn is rising
The colourful buff-breasted paradise kingfisher will come out once more
And the southern cassowary will start gardening
What a perfect cycle!
Let’s try harder to keep it that way
So the next generation can also experience
The unique noises in the night
And trees wave in the breeze
