My Koru

An object made of bone
Handmade by tribe members
An item respected by many
By race, colours and genders
An item by the sea
It will always be protected
From father to son to grandson
And will always be remembered
A piece of nature’s making
The ocean's great giant
Will bring peace and prosperity
And will bring me guidance
This item brings me happiness
And is important to me
Because it holds what’s most important
My mum’s family history
This item is my favourite
From tribes like Manawatu
This poem tells the story
For my item is a koru
