I walked into the store,
There were plenty of other cats.
These cats were big,
These cats were small,
And these cats were tall.
But these cats weren't like you.
When I sat on the stool,
Waiting for my brother to pick a cat.
But then, like a sun rises,
you came out of hiding and said hello.
You pounced on my lap as a tiger on their prey,
You cuddled and cuddled and cuddled
Until you fell asleep.
You slept like a baby until it was time to pick.
We decided that you and another were the lucky ones.
We got home and let you out.
You explored like the explorer you were.
Then you decided to hide.
We were frightened you had run away
That you had decided we weren't the right ones
That you had just up and left
But you didn't
When we found you we were happier then life itself.
Time went on as you grew older
You decided that we were the ones.
That you didn't want to up and leave.
You were my little ray of sunshine,
I would wake up with you beside me
And we would cuddle and cuddle on the couch.
You had finally decided
That we were your family.
