A bright piece of lycra slung over the back of my chair
Reminding me of the training ahead
Swiftly slip them on over body
Smooth, sleek and snug
I sling my kit bag over my shoulder
And climb onto the pool deck
familiar feel of the cool concrete on my feet
breathing in the comforting smell of chlorine
I slide my club cap over my head
And pull my goggles over my eyes
Untwist my swimwear straps around my shoulders
Clear, blue water sparkles invitingly before me
I stretch out my arms,
propelling myself forward like a torpedo
I'm airborne for only milliseconds
before water, as smooth as silk
engulfs my body like a blanket
I glide through the underworld
Finally home
