My Tree

The sun rises from its sleep Animals awake as the car horns beep
The leaves of the old oak tree whisper their secrets down to me
Branches so high that they can touch the sky. He makes me happy, like a friend.
I love my tree He sweeps me up in his woody arms
And carries me into the twinkling stars We lie on the fresh green grass
Looking up at the shapes in the clouds
He teaches me things, just like in a class
His leaves are green crystals blowing in the wind
His trunk is as brown as mud after a storm
His eye are shining stars on a clear night
And he is like the sun, always bright.
We walk along the river bank Water rushes down the blue stream
All the things that have been blown in, have sank
He tells me stories from when he was a child I listen intently, he is a fantastic storyteller I love them, they all share the same theme: wild
We pass the cattle, mooing in their pens
We pass the chickens, cluck cluck clucking away Such peaceful sounds, that’s what I say We lay our blanket down on the grass
We open our basket and pull out our food As my tree looks at the feast, I can see a sparkle in his eyes
But then come five fearsome furry flies The bugs are small black rocks buzzing in the sky
But we swat them away and then they die The sandwich is as tasty as a lollie
The ham, the cheese, the salad is delicious My tree laughs so do I, we are feeling very jolly
The sun hides behind the hills, ready for it’s long nap The animals tuck in and I say goodbye to my tree As I walk back to my house, I am as sleepy as can be But no matter what, I still love my tree
