Staring into space
dark, diligent eyes
fur as soft as silk
innocence, hiding no lies.

As small as a shoe box,
curled up tightly by my side
frightened by every little noise,
timid and trying to hide.

You shimmer like an opal,
a coat of black and white.
Miniature paws with tiny nails
your teeth, they shall not bite.

Rearing, retrieving, running
You begin to discover the world
after every night of rest,
your body soon becomes unfurled.

A love I have grown fond of
you’ve made me happy every hour.
A perfect little puppy dog
For you I’ll never cower.
