Nana and My Silver Necklace

Every time I feel or see this necklace,
I remember you.
That first MND walk, you were in hospital
That 4km walk through the 30-degree heat
We all soldiered on because we love you.
Nana, you can’t walk or talk
But I still understand what you say and do.
This necklace reminds me of the time when
You would yell at me but hug me after
You would tell me off but play games with me first.
I still remember that day you got out of hospital,
Us visiting you the day before,
You in that chair, that chair, I still remember it,
Now poppa looks after you all day, every day.
The doctor said you would die before Christmas but you’re still here.
Nana you’ve soldiered on all these days, weeks and months.
You can’t eat, talk or walk
You can no longer talk to me when I feeling low
But when I am feeling low you still somehow put a smile on my face.
