Nan's Tablecloth, Circa 1916

The needle flashed in the sunlight as it wove in and out
The pattern slowly emerged
Swirls of blue, and pink against the white
The hand that held the needle, created a beautiful escape
Escape from the drudgery of a life born in darkness
A world in misery, war, disease, poverty
The hand was sure, the purpose clear
To leave something beautiful from the worst of times
A legacy removed from the reality
The heart was eased as the cloth transformed
The simple scene soothed the pain
The cloth would live to witness love and laughter
The heart would stop but the cloth would live on
A testament to the simple truth
A loving home and beauty overcome.
