Nature is a mystery, discovered but unknown,

Nature is a home to those we don't know,

And when we came to destroy all that they have known,

Nature fought back, on its very own

The chainsaw’s compact engine rumbled with delight,

Unable to wait for a savoury bark bite

But in those fleeting moments, the ground became so moist,

The water came from feet to waist, without a warning voice,

The water grew fast, a torrent of thrashing liquid,

Simply waiting for our fear to come to the surface

The chainsaw’s rev grew quiet, and slowed to a steady pace,

And now the chainsaw stopped, reluctant of the water

And over years the forest grew, unchanging thanks to nature,

The chainsaw lay on the forest bed, growth spread on its saw,

Curious people trekked through the forest, careful not to slip,

Children hid in the old willow’s trunk, safe in their imaginary home

Nature was a mystery, but now it's like a home,

Not just to the unknown, but the people we have known
