The Koala

The soft gentle koala sits contently,

Under the smooth gum leaves,

Soaking in the warm sunlight as I watch it comfortably snooze.

The vibrant smell of eucalyptus leaves floods my nose with pleasure,

As the exquisite blue sky shimmers in the wonderful weather.

The rough branch holds strongly,

as the grey bundle sits tight,

Its big soft ears twitch humbly as it’s woken by the light.

The delicate cicada shells perched around the tree,

I slowly start to count the lot 1…2…3!

As the crimson sun,

Slowly starts to set,

The sky looks like a watercolour painting you simply can’t forget,

The koalas eyes stare longingly into the dreamy twilight,

needing, hoping, preying, that his species would be alright.
