Nightly encounters of the quokka kind

Oh my goodness what is that?
Tiny footsteps on my bed.
I’m suddenly wide awake
Doing a double take
What animal has crept into my tent?
Did it come here chasing a scent?
Oh, it’s a quokka that has come in!
Oh look, it’s smiling a cheeky grin.
It must be looking for my food
But I’m not for sharing in the mood.
Quokka, it’s the middle of the night
I would prefer if you would get out of my sight.
Join your fellow marsupials outside
And don’t come back in here to hide.
I like you during the day
But at night stay out of my way!
