Each day and each night

the leaves fall from the trees around me

Each day and each night

the zookeepers lock our enclosure

It's become second nature now

I remember the days,

We could live freely on our country,

Dharawal country

We could do whatever we wanted

Back when

we could eat whenever we wanted

Or sleep for as long as we wanted.

Now we have nothing.

Stuck to sleeping on logs they call trees

But they will never compare to our trees

Nothing can be compared to

our leaves,

our trees,

our freedom.
