Noongar Seasonal Poem

Birak: the night and the rain eases
Hot and the heat rises.
Ground, it turns crusty.
Bunaru: hottest time of the year
No rain, cool arvo, chill through your bones.
Hot day although.
Djeran: light emerges
Through the ghost gums.
Leaves strong in all bush
Animals' rain is far.
Makaru: magpies swoop.
Their babies protected
In the trees.
Kuru: snakes are grumpy.
Bottle brush blooms.
Bush animals lurk through
Winding mist rain,
Washes away bad memories
Lots of dew in the morning
Rain is finally here.
