O Wollemi Pine, so tall and fair

A giant of the forest, standing there.

Your branches like fingers, reaching to the sky

A towering canopy of shadows where I could lie.

Your leaves of green provide me shade,

Like a blanket of comfort, so gently laid

Your trunk so strong, yet also so slim,

Like a loving hug, with strength and whim.

You were a sight to behold, part of the land

Your beauty like a siren’s song- so grand.

But now your numbers dwindle, almost none to spare

Fading like a rainbow in the summer air.

Your life, so precious, slowly dying away,

Your fate, so cruel, with no hope for a better day

Your leaves, so fragile, your roots, so dry

Like a wilted flower in the sun, you die.

O Wollemi Pine, so tall and fair,

Your spirit still lives, though you are no longer there.

Your legacy will linger, a reminder of days gone by

We must care for the earth, before it’s too late to try.
