He isn't very strong like an elephant,
He isn't very tall like a giraffe,
He looks a bit clumsy like a foal walking for the first time,
But he has eyes and a nose as dark as the richest chocolate,
Fur as soft as the clouds above my head and the colour of the sky behind them.

He holds more history than anyone can imagine,
Travelling across the world,
And landing in the lap of a young girl.

His chest stitched with mustard-coloured letters,
And his name carries my own family's,
Stafford Bear.

His soft and aged eyes make me smile like a Cheshire Cat,
Remembering all the secrets he's kept safe like a volt.

He's my childhood best friend,
He's my safe haven from the world,
He's my keeper of secrets,
And my shield when the shots are hurled.

He is my ocean blue bear.
