Ocean Poem

As I scurry across the sand it burns me like the sun,
The smell of the sunscreen brings everything back,
Christmas, birthdays, good times, bad,
But it’s all worth it.
The blackened charcoaled jetty stands snail still,
The sun beaming down glistens the water around,
The ocean tears shed as they hit the rocks,
I feel a moment of panic as the waves dump me under,
The water slides down my throat as the waves roll over me,
I have to clear the stinging salty water from my eyes,
But it’s all worth it.
I clamber like a possum up the rocks,
The sharp barnacles sting everyone’s feet,
The red rigged rocks draw the deep blood,
Tan lines on skin, sun bleached hair,
This is the best time of the year,
It is all worth it.
