Our dying planet

I watch as smoke stacks choke the sky
But I can’t help but wonder why,
Why don’t the factories even try
To stop this world of ours dying in this fate.
We need to find a safer way, a better way
To put our poisonous waste away.
I used to play in a stream as a child, it felt so endless and wild
The water used to be so fresh and clean
It was back then, I used to dream
But now the stream has decayed
The water is black and my dream starts to fade
All the birds have fled the sky.
And I wonder why
Why don’t any of us even try.
I wish there was a clock whose hands I could rewind
We could have saved our world if we had more time
Time to make people see what we are doing
We are destroying our earth,
And we don’t realize what it is truly worth
But now I have hope and I start to dream again.
