Peacock Feather

A slender, spindly spine
It stretches out like a reaching vine.
Fine, feathers fanning out like veins in a leaf
Elegant and elongated, a beauty that is never brief.
Velvety and luxurious in my hand
Silk under my fingers, not rough like sand.
Like threads of satin ribbon revealing
This piece of nature is exceedingly appealing.
A striking eye of contrasting coloured bands
The pupil jet black like darkened lands.
Turquoise a gem in a jewel box bringing pleasure
A ring of emerald completes this treasure.
