Like a loyal dog I am waiting for you
Ready to hold and hang on
As you squeeze me bleach squelches through the fabric
And your hurried touch further smooths me

I am as old as Sherwood Forest
But an inventive boy took me from my trunk
Once shade and shelter as birds danced, flirted and nested
He adorned me with such care

A metal collar and a tiny tack
Reborn out of necessity, humans mad
Damage caused from large silver man-made bird
Dropped eggs that caused such creators

Like a survivor from another century
I am now retired, an ornament, a relic
I can still hold; however…
Plastic has superseded me
