Predatory Plants

Little flies, come inside,
Seduced into mouths by ambrosia
Neat nectar killing off beetles
Wide green mouths with teeth of terror
But don’t be afraid:
I’m just a chlorophyll tinted plant!
Sticky, slimy, stewy liquid,
Stuck, struggling only makes it worse,
And you just can’t get loose!
Sundews are a shiny specimen
Their beads bright in the morning sun,
Splash!
Oh, what’s this?
A pitcher plant,
Sadly, not nepenthes,
These are like bowls,
With liquid!
Trumpet pitchers are rising up,
No liquid in these,
Otherwise they’d fall in the breeze!
All of these are my treasured plants,
Each special in their little way,
But they all serve the same purpose:
To be a gift to me!
