Radiant Reef

Where the sea is like a mother, the waves are like a father
Underneath the protection of both, some beauty some sorrow.
Beauty and the sorrow of the great barrier reef,
living proof of dazzling nature harmed by human hand.
Where the dance of the tides, kiss of the spray, salty scent
Where the fish yellow, blue, red, black and green
Where the coral luminous but of course! It is the reef.
So wonderful this underwater place, one can see it from outer space.
Where the marine life is breathtaking, the water inviting,
Where the sea shelters secrets, the coral reef deep beneath.
Rough, soft, sparkling, vibrant but diseased.
Where the rising ocean temperatures, carbon emissions, plastics and pollution.
Where we have a desire to see. To see is to harm.
Each time we see, we harm, we add to the pollution.
The big companies, the cars, the divers, the tourists.
Then there is just a little person, that would be me!
Where a little person cannot cease the pollution but has a say
And what I say is: Stay away, Stay away, Stay away
For now you don’t need to see. Let the coral breathe. Let the great barrier reef be.
