Rainforests

My heart sings as I enter a cool ocean of green.
I walk with joyful anticipation down the bright green carpet of moss.
The deep brown trees whisper to one another as the breeze sings a song of joy.
The rain droplets rest on the shining leaves like sparkling diamonds.
The happy noise of birds chirping echoes through a wave of colours.
The rays of sunshine dance gracefully on the canopy floor
while the lizards play hide and seek underneath the crispy bark
that’s crackles like bacon when I walk across it.
I walk into a dark patch where moss turns black,
I stand in eery silence then realise that the exciting twitter of birds has disappeared in this dry and desolate land.
I look up and before me a silver man-made monster spewing out toxic smoke into a pristine blue sky.
I watch in terror as the poisoned clouds settle and smoother the life around it from up high.
With sadness I watch a lonely butterfly fluttering, searching for a drink in this dark, barren landscape.
It then flies away lonely, scared, torn away from the place it called home.
