Ravaged
By Zoe W
Earth, our home, our land, our day and night
Hear its pleads, hear its plight
Turn your eyes to the forest aflame, turn your eyes to the forest’s endgame
In the darkness of the dead of night, flames flicker in our oversight
Enveloped in heat and swamped with fire
Oh how the forest longed for the winter through its transpire
In the dead of night, in the darkness there is a cruel light
A fire ravaging through a forest eons old
A fire ravaging through a story untold
In the morning’s rise, only ashes remain in the fire’s demise
An eerie stillness lingers in the air
As if in reminiscence of what was once there
Through the blood of a forest once strong
Ruby red shoots emerge where they belong
A forest eons old, arises from the depths of despair, behold
Chasing a former glory forgotten by all
A forest that once stood proud and tall
Lest we forget the nightcap oak
Now is the era for fallen to rise once more from the smoke
