Regent Parrot

I am a Regent Parrot
Squawking in the boiling evening sun
Trees fall as I dash past them
Humans invade my country
My family, my friends
I hear them screeching and squealing for help
Trying to aid, trying to warn
It's useless
They scatter from their crushed habitat
I listen to their blood-curdling squarks
Taking my place in a fallen hollow tree
I shivel into a ball
Watching a nightmare.
