Sap Is Thinner Than Water

Shooting through the undergrowth, reaching for the sun,
Weaving through the soil in search of water,
Growing stronger, taller and maturing,
As time flickers by.
Holding new life, nests full of eggs on my branches,
Gifting oxygen and protection to the circle of life.
Growing kinder, prouder and sustaining,
As time flickers by.
Tribes trudging through a storm, I give them shelter,
Kith and kin crying as they bury love in my shade.
Growing trust, friendship and respecting,
As time flickers by.
Humans lose touch, the jungle turns from green to grey.
Figures with hard hats, looking through my soul,
Growing uneasy, afraid and suspicion is rising,
As time flickers by.
Surrounded by robots, rolling, rumbling and roaring,
Metal ripping and tearing my roots,
Betrayal, sadness, my heart has grown heavy,
And my time flickered by.
